My Designers lll Group

June 25, 2015

I belong to a group called Designers lll.  We meet once a month and take turns presenting a challenge of something to make.  We have two months to turn in our challenges.  We are not graded on our challenges but the purpose is to learn something new.  I myself have learned so much from this wonderful group of ladies, they are so encouraging and helpful.

Aug./Sept. 2015 This challenge presented by Carol B.  is to insert a zipper in the front of a sweatshirt.  Let me see where to start.  Actually I have made five different shirts but they don't count because the group has already seen them.  I started at Salvation Army and found just what I needed and I had a zipper in my stash and the color matched perfectly.
Now how to embellish?
It's 11:55 pm, shutting down  I'm tired.

Our challenge this month June/July 2015 is to make a Koos three fabric Infinity scarf.  I was shopping at JoAnns and found the fabric I wanted and luckily it was 50% off.  Just had to buy it.  I did get help from a couple of ladies but, once I got it home I was lost again.  The final direction came from my good friend Donna whom didn't even know what a Koos scarf was and was glad she didn't have to make one.  Thank you Donna!

This is the fabric I'm using.

This is the scarf put together.

Let me show some examples of our past challenges.

The challenge for April/May 2015 presented by Katherine was to make a article of clothing  from three different fabrics and only one can be a solid fabric.  This is  the blouse I made for the challenge McCalls 6124.  I fashioned this blouse after a blouse I saw in a Sew News Magazine.  Luckily it fit right into this challenge and all I had to  do was add a third fabric..

The challenge for Feb./March presented by Sue T.  was to make something from the Inchies that we made from the previous challenge.  In the four corners of this hanging are the Inchies I made from the Dec./Jan challenge presented by Marge.  Here is some Inchies and the hanging I made.  We also made extra Inchies for trading with each other.  The Inchies I made to share were made of ribbon.

This is my four season hanging.

2014 Jan/Feb  This challenge was make your own fabric presented by Brenda.  I made this vest
B 5359 by making tubes and placing them on a washable grid sewing them together.  I saw this vest done on the TV program Sew It All, I also seen it in one of my magazines but my memory is short.

2014 Mar/Apr Working with Sheers.  Challenge presented by Brenda.  This blouse is from B5526.
The cut out work was inspired by an article in Threads magazine by Kenneth King.  I filled the cut outs with sheer fabric.

2014 May/June- Art challenge presented by Katherine.  I was a loss on this challenge so I took a branch off the tree in the back of my house and wired fabric flowers on it.  The flowers idea came from Martha Stewart's crafts.  I also hung plastic Dragonfly lights on it.  Serves well for a night light.

2014 July/August challenge presented by Jan was making a pocket you've not made before.  There are five pair if shorts here that I made for my two son-in-laws and my three grandsons for Christmas 2014.  Unfortunately, there was no picture of the pockets.

2014 Sept/Oct- Something Inspired by Marimeko, this challenge was issued by Susan T.
Unfortunately I don't remember what I made.  I was reminded by our group leader
this past meeting (8-27-15) what I made.  Fabric and item that inspired me was  a                                    print with poppies, it just so happened I some fabric with poppies and I needed a                               case for my tablet.

Fabric is 100%  cotton.  Pocket in front for tablet and a zippered pocket in the rear.It is also lined with pellon for safety.

2014 Nov/Dec- Christmas party at Marge's home.  Gift exchange was twelve buttons.

                                                                    2013

2013 Jan/Feb- Make a pair of pants, presented by Katherine.  Honestly, I just can't get a good pair of slacks.  Why is it called a pair of slacks when there is only one item??  Maybe it;s because there are two legs????.

2013Sept/Oct Challenge was to make something matching plaids or stripes.  My fabric was Pladitudes ( Flannel) M6613.

2013 Nov/Dec- Do something with beads, presented by Jan.  I had a operation so I had plenty of time to do the bead work on this vest.  This vest is pattern M 2260.  I also made the red gauze blouse, the red gauze fabric I purchased at Haberman's it is pattern #M 6613.  The flowers on the vest was a copy of a wall hanging i did.  I took the pattern to Staples and had it shrunk down to fit the required space on the vest.

2012 Jan/Feb Presented by Dolly - To make a felted sweater coat from recycled sweaters. Unfortunately, my coat didn't go well so I never finished it.  So, lets move on.

2012-March/April- To make a handbag made from men's suit jackets presented by myself.  Must use lapel, collar, pockets.

2012-May/June-Make something using fabric strips and tubes, presented by Gwen  I made this sweatshirt as a project from the Troy ASG and then added the strips and tubes to the sweatshirt.
Worked out well.

2012 July/Aug - Make a hat. Challenge presented by Jan.  I made two hats.  The blue on is made from cotton, the brim from a plastic milk cart.  The other hat is made from wool and the brim & bow is pleather.
